Things That Happened In October

October was a good month. Things were slower this month, even with two trips to Des Moines and Peter working a million hours a week. Here are some things that happened:

* Grandma and Grandpa Leo came to visit at the beginning of the month. We had fun eating out, going to Elk Point for ice cream, and going to the mall together. It's so fun to have visitors!

* Eric got his first and second teeth -- his bottom left came first on the 4th, and his bottom right came in on the 14th. Those were some rough nights.

* Eric and I went to the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center for their Nature Tales event. There was a story about spiders which Eric sat and was enthralled by, then the bigger kids did a craft while the babies played together. We finished off the morning with a beautiful short nature hike in Stone Park.

* We went with Babi and Grandpa Brian to Howell Pumpkin Patch near Des Moines. Eric had fun seeing the animals and all the people to watch. He also had a lot of fun with the smaller gourds. He kept wanting to shake them like rattles! It was a very fun trip!

* The following week, we went back to Des Moines to prepare for and celebrate Mara's baby shower. We had a blast with Carla, Eric, and Evan and it was a lovely shower. Eric was very good.

* The last week of the month, we had three play dates with other moms and their kids. We had two with our new friends, the Pangborn's and one with our law school friends Lindsay and David. It's been great to watch Eric playing with other kids. He really enjoys it. We look forward to more fun with baby Aubrey and sweet little David!

* Eric can now do "SOOOO Big!" really well. He is also improving his "bye-bye" and says a few words sometimes...he says "mama", "daddy", "puppers", "bye-bye", "ball", and "book", though rarely when we ask him to. He's really recognizing words and other speech. He responds to us in ways that show us he understands. (He starts to run and giggle when I say "Mama's going to get you!", he gets REALLY excited when I say "Do you want to eat?" He goes and gets toys or books when we ask him to. He's basically a genius, not that I'm biased, or anything...) It's AMAZING to watch this communication development.

* Eric's favorite games are changing. He still likes to play peekaboo a lot, but he now also likes to play chase with Mama, Daddy, AND the dog, and he and Daddy play "Touchdown" with his little Iowa Hawkeye football. He picks up the football and runs across the floor laughing. :)

Pictures!
